Biography

Sabreena Cherrington, soprano, received her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2022. Originally from Cedarburg Wisconsin, she moved to Minneapolis Minnesota to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Music Education in 2018 under the tutelage of Jean del Santo.

At UTK, Ms. Cherrington was a graduate teaching assistant in the Musicology and Voice Departments. She was a member of Knoxville Opera’s Opera Studio from 2020-2022 and is a current student of Dr. Kimberly Roberts.

Ms. Cherrington was a district competitor in the 2021 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and was recently named a semi-finalist in the Young Artist Division of the Orpheus Vocal Competition in Tennessee in the spring of 2021.

Recent credits include Rosalinde in Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and Eva Delvingné in Dan Shore’s comic opera, An Embarrassing Position, with the University of Tennessee Opera Theatre department. She sang the role of Kate Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly with the Minneapolis based Opera Reading Project. In the summer of 2021, she performed Annina, and studied the role of Violetta, in Verdi’s La Traviata with the Bay View Music Festival. Sabreena also participated in the Source Song Festival, an art song festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the summer of 2021. She collaborated with composer Helena Michelson and pianist Maggie Hinchliffe to premiere a new art song with poetry by Joyce Sutphen. This spring she will make her professional debut singing the role of Mrs. Gleaton in Susannah with Marble City Opera.
